Helios AI Climate Model Update: A More Accurate WA%R for Commodity & Supply Chain Risk

A Major Upgrade to Climate Risk Modeling

Helios AI has released the first phase of its climate model revamp, introducing a more accurate and supply-chain-reflective version of WA%R (Weighted Average % Risk) — a core metric used by procurement teams, commodity analysts, and supply chain leaders to assess climate exposure across global origins.

This update strengthens the predictive foundation behind Helios AI’s climate, commodity, and disruption intelligence products.

What Is WA%R?

WA%R (Weighted Average % Risk) is a Helios AI metric that measures the climate exposure of a commodity across all its growing regions. Unlike traditional models that treat all regions equally, WA%R weights each region by its real contribution to the supply chain — either by:

  • Export volume share (for global risk), or

  • Actual production share (for country-level risk)

This produces a single, comparable climate risk score that reflects how commodities truly move through global supply chains.

What’s New in This Update

We’ve improved how WA%R is calculated at both global and country levels to better represent real-world sourcing patterns.

1. Global WA%R → Now Weighted by Export Volume

Instead of using total global production, Helios AI now weights climate risk by each region’s share of global exports.
This provides a far more realistic view of risk along:

  • Major trade routes

  • High-impact exporting countries

  • Key origins for procurement teams

2. Country-Level WA%R → Now Weighted by Real Production Distribution

Helios AI expanded its sub-national region coverage across all major commodities. Country-level WA%R now uses the true share of production across growing regions — eliminating the outdated assumption that all regions contribute equally.

What Users Will Notice

Because we refined the weighting system, you’ll see updates in the climate module:

  • Adjusted historical WA%R values

  • Updated forward-looking WA%R forecasts

  • Refreshed climate star ratings, which are derived from WA%R

These shifts are expected and indicate a more precise model — not a data issue.

Why This Matters for Procurement & Supply Chain Teams

This update improves the reliability and actionability of climate insights across the entire Helios platform.

Key Benefits:

  • More accurate climate risk scoring across origins

  • Better comparison of sourcing regions

  • Improved early warning signals for climate volatility

  • Stronger forecasting accuracy for commodity prices and supply risk

  • More confident sourcing, contracting, and supplier planning

With climate volatility increasing globally, businesses need accurate, real-time risk insights to stay ahead. This WA%R upgrade strengthens Helios’ role as the industry leader in climate-aware commodity forecasting.

Part of a Larger Climate Model Revamp

Although this is the major climate model upgrade, Helios AI is rolling out additional updates to deliver the most complete, predictive view of:

  • Climate volatility

  • Commodity price risk

  • Global production shifts

  • Crop yield disruptions

  • Extreme weather events

Helios AI remains the only platform that integrates climate risk + commodity forecasting + disruption detection into a single predictive system.
